It is for this reason that I upgraded my computer when I bought Factions, anticipating that future chapters might require more. I'm just afraid that I may be more on par with the new minimum requirements, which means that I may lag more than the average player. Yuck.

yeah I hear all of that - and I looked and planned to
but I ran into the newer cards not being much more dough than AGP
I love the fact GW has lower reqs and its worked fine on my PC and struggled but OK on my wife's laptop (bought much later but for school not for gaming)
GW has had a lot of bang for the buck (I didnt like Factions all that much but thats another topic) and quite frankly I have my hands in too many other systems/games to want to do pc [and to a lesser extent laptop] treadmilling.
games like wc3/ft and gw1&2 have been absolutely terrific for this.
I'm just surprised I might find myself SOL, a bit out of the blue, now :b

Kudos to you sir for realizing it's a matter of personal opinion and preference and not just saying "Factions Sucks" or the like

in theory you should be fine to run the game, even if you have to go in and put -dx8 in your command line to run guild wars on the older graphics engine.

As Ckaz posted in another thread, www.guildwars.com says:
What are the minimum and recommended system specifications for Guild Wars Nightfall?
Minimum System Specs:
Windows XP/2000/ME/98
Intel Pentium III 800 MHz or equivalent
256 MB RAM
CD-ROM Drive
3 GB Available HDD Space
ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series Video Card with 32MB of VRAM
16-bit Sound Card
Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse
Recommended System Specs:
Windows XP/2000
Intel Pentium III 1GHz or equivalent
512 MB RAM
CD-ROM Drive
4 GB Available HDD Space
ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce 4 Ti Series Video Card with 64MB of VRAM
16-bit Sound Card
Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse
Seems odd that the box would have different requirements than what is adverstised on their site.

i finally did my usual on the cheeeep major upgrade using what was hot last year but is close out cheap now.
asus sli mobo that is so old it is rock stable with the new bugs revised out
2 gigs of dual channel value ram
7900 gs ko evga (PCE-E) video card. (500 core/1380 effective factory settings)
3800+ 1 MB on core processor
stock with no overclocking gets 4000+/- on 3d mark 06 so there is some promise to it
did i mention it is rock stable as well?

I turn off all the "extra" graphics and stuff anyway. (Shadows, High Detail,Post Processing stuff, I'll turn off Shading and Lighting effects in Nightfall, etc) , So its more of the same for me.
I could not care much less at all about fancy graphical stuff :\

I was kinda afraid of this. Even though it will not (or maybe a little bit) affect me, but I'm sure alot of my friends won't be able to play Nightfall, which really sucks. I'd love to go through the game with some friends, but I'm sure some won't even buy it if they see these requirements. Also, I'm pretty sure I won't be getting a new computer anywhere soon, so I hope they won't increase it (much) further in the future chapters, it'd really suck if I wouldn't be able to play the later chapters because my computer isn't good enough.

Well in a way the GuildWars Engine is a miracle. No, it really is.
You have extremely high viewing distances, nice looking effects, detailled textures on armors and with Nightfall around the corner, good looking bump mapping. Not to forget that the models are all top notch quality.
I just recently spoke with a friend of mine about current RPGs and their graphics. There currently seems to be a trend to turn the RPG Genre into yet another Techdemo (sort of like what the FPS Genre has become). Games like NWN2, Oblivion or Gothic 3 have downright insanse Hardware Requirements. And all you get is some plastic look with insane viewing distances and shader galore. But for some freaky reason if you compare a screenshot of let's say NWN 2 with the images GW produces ->
http://www.gamebanshee.com/screensho...creenshot2.jpg
http://www.guildwars.com/images/scre...cr012-page.jpg
No seriously. It's a downright miracle that GW has such low requirements. As with the given example above, NWN 2 requires a machine with more than 2 times the power to run as a MINIMUM than GW needs to run at recommended.
And don't tell me it's because GW is 2D and static, so is NWN 2.

Just to be really pedantic - 8500's only ever had 64MB Ram, as I think did "real" GF3's and 4's (i.e. the Ti's which also had shaders, unlike the crappy MX's). So the jump from 32 to 64 on those cards only really makes sense as a correction. Also the first "minimum" card, the 8500 (a top-end, premium card of it's day) is marginally faster than the "recommended" 9000 (a bottom end, budget card, based on the 8500, but generally clocked slower than even an 8500LE).
So those original specs weren't exactly the height of accuracy and the second lot look more sensible to me, for any installment in the GW series.

i had a TI and it was 128 not 64
GF4 Ti 4200 cards will come with either 64MB or 128MB of memory,

I'm only just above the minimum gfx reqs for nightfall, but I won't be upgrading too soon in the future, I'd rather be a scrooge and wait until MS fks up the market with vista and dx10...

-dx8 command takes you into nightfall jsut fine.
my comp only has trouble with the struts and support frame images in the factions dock landscape.
teh good thing is that nightfall doesnt have any place near as complex from what i saw

How ignorant is that - they can still improve it like gang-busters.
But they have the engine and effort thru chp1&2 to work at those reqs, almost have to go out of their way to 'bust' it for '3' it'd seem, while still allowing options and accelerations for the newer stuff.
Some of us with multiple PCs running it and not worrying about making or keeping their PCs in top gaming form have been able to play to.
ElderSoul you're fine, just some of us with older stuff might feel a pinch if what's been relayed is on the retail box is true, over their previous chapter requirements and what shows on their own site currently, for Nightfall. And maybe not even then - I should know in a day or two...!

Your integrated graphic can run GW (X200 = Radeon 9600 equivalent >> Radeon 8500)
And 6200 isn't much better than X200 if it got 64bit bus
